In the heart of Sherpa country rises the greatest concentration of the world’s highest mountains, a realm where culture, spirituality, and extreme landscapes exist in perfect balance. It's recommended that you arrive a day before your trip begins to rest and get any gear you need for the trek. When booking international flights, consider adding extra days in Nepal before and after your trek in case of weather delays or cancellations.
Important Information: Lukla Flights & Safety
We want to inform you about flights to Lukla, which may affect your travel plans. During the busy trekking seasons (March, April, May, October, and November), flights depart from Ramechhap/Manthali, a 5–6 hour drive from Kathmandu. In quieter months (January, February, June, July, August, September, and December), flights operate directly from Kathmandu.
Airlines determine flight schedules based on monthly passenger numbers, but weather conditions, airport congestion, runway limitations, and challenging terrain can lead to delays or cancellations. For this reason, we recommend allowing an extra day or two in your itinerary to accommodate potential flight disruptions, ensuring a stress-free journey and timely return for your international flight.
The journey begins along ancient trails that link traditional Sherpa villages, prayer walls, and centuries-old monasteries, offering deep insight into the spiritual heritage of the Himalaya. As we gain altitude, the landscape transforms from forested valleys into vast alpine terrain dominated by ice, rock, and towering peaks.
The trek’s defining feature is the crossing of three major Himalayan passes, each rising above 5,000 meters: Kongma La, Cho La, and Renjo La. These crossings demand endurance, strong acclimatization, and confident mountain travel, rewarding us with spectacular panoramic views rarely seen on standard Everest routes.
Beyond the passes, we ascend to two legendary viewpoints. Kala Patthar (5,630 m) provides the most dramatic close-up views of Everest’s south face, while the climb of Gokyo Peak (5,360 m) reveals a breathtaking panorama of turquoise lakes and the massive bulk of Cho Oyu. The journey also leads to Everest Base Camp, where climbers prepare for their ascent of the world’s highest mountain.
Throughout the trek, we remain constantly surrounded by Himalayan giants—Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori, Cho Oyu, and Mount Everest—creating a continuous sense of awe and scale. This is not merely a trek, but a true high-altitude adventure that combines physical challenge, cultural discovery, and the unforgettable presence of the greatest mountains on Earth.
DAY 1: ARRIVE IN KATHMANDU
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our local team will warmly welcome you at the airport and escort you to your hotel for some well-deserved rest and relaxation.
The day includes a trek briefing, where you will receive detailed information about the journey ahead, followed by leisure time. If you arrive in the morning, the entire day is at your disposal — a perfect opportunity to rest or explore the surroundings, experience Nepalese culture, and sample the local cuisine.
DAY 2: PREPARE FOR TREKKING AND EXPLORE KATHMANDU VALLEY (1350M)
After breakfast, enjoy a full day of sightseeing in Kathmandu with your guide. Highlights include:
This day also provides time to check your trekking equipment and ensure you are fully prepared for the Everest Three Pass Trek starting the next day.
DAY 3: KATHMANDU - FLIGHT TO LUKLA (2850 M) - PHAKDING (2660 M) OR MONJO (2835 M)
Depending on flight schedules, you will either transfer to Kathmandu Airport in the morning or depart very early (around 2 a.m.) for Ramechhap Airport. Upon arrival, enjoy breakfast before boarding your scenic flight to Lukla. This short flight, conducted only in good weather, offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
Upon landing in Lukla, your porters and Sherpas will organize the loads, marking the official start of your trek.
Note:
Due to air traffic at Kathmandu Airport, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) may operate all Lukla flights from either Kathmandu or Ramechhap.
If the flight is canceled due to weather, it will be rescheduled for the next day, requiring an additional night at a hotel in Kathmandu or Ramechhap.
DAY 4: PHAKDING OR MONJO - NAMCHE BAZAR (3440 M)
The trail follows the Dudh Kosi River—the “River of Milk”—alternating between its right and left banks, crossing suspension bridges and passing through terraced fields and small villages. The path, carved into the rock and surrounded by cultivated slopes, climbs steeply toward Namche Bazaar.
Namche Bazaar, the vibrant capital of the Sherpa region, is the heart of the Khumbu Valley. Here, you’ll find bustling markets, small shops, and Tibetan handicrafts, all set against the backdrop of stunning Himalayan peaks.
DAY 5: NAMCHE BAZAR - EVEREST VIEW POINT (3860 M) - NAMCHE BAZAR
Today is dedicated to acclimatization and exploring the Sherpa villages surrounding Namche Bazaar. The trail climbs gently through a small pine forest toward Syangboche, where you’ll enjoy your first panoramic views of Ama Dablam, Everest, Lhotse, and the majestic peaks of upper Khumbu.
Continue to the traditional villages of Khumjung and Khunde, where you can visit Hillary High School and Khunde Hospital, both founded through the efforts of Sir Edmund Hillary to support the local Sherpa community.
For those preferring a more relaxed day, you can opt for a quieter pace, spending time enjoying the views and atmosphere of Namche Bazaar.
Day 6: NAMCHE BAZAR - THAME (3820 M)
Leaving Namche Bazaar, the trail winds through pine and rhododendron forests, passing several small Sherpa villages along the way. Among them is Thame, dominated by a traditional nunnery, which can be visited to learn about local spiritual life.
The trek also offers opportunities to spot Himalayan wildlife, including musk deer, pheasants, and Himalayan tahrs. After crossing the steep and roaring Bhote Koshi River, the trail continues its steady climb to reach the picturesque village of Thame.
DAY 7: THAME - SUMDUR PEAK LOOKOUT (4960 M) - THAME
Today is dedicated to acclimatization as you ascend Sumdur Peak, a spectacular viewpoint offering panoramic views of the surrounding high Himalayas. From here, marvel at Cho Oyu (8,201 m), numerous 7,000-meter peaks, and in the distance, the hidden Nangpa La valley marking the Tibet border. On a clear day, Everest can also be seen towering majestically among the giants.
This hike allows your body to adapt to higher altitudes while rewarding you with some of the most breathtaking vistas in the Khumbu region.
DAY 8: THAME - MARULUNG - LANGDEN (4350 M )
The trek today follows the left bank of the Bhote Khosi River, passing through mountain pastures dotted with small seasonal villages. One such village, Taranga, is said in local legend to be the home of the yeti—though in its absence, visitors enjoy the delicious local potatoes.
Stop for lunch in Marulung, after which the trail climbs above the village, where vegetation and settlements become sparse. Passing through Arye, the last inhabited hamlet in the valley, the trail leads toward Nangpa La (5,716 m), although the pass itself is too far to reach in a single day. Historically, the pass is used by yak caravans and Tibetan merchants trading in the Khumbu.
The day offers a spectacular panorama of Cho Oyu and many other peaks between 6,000 and 7,000 meters, before a stopover at the remote village of Langden.
DAY 9: LANGDEN - RENJO PASS (5365 M) - GOKYO (4750 M)
Well-acclimatized and ready for a long, rewarding day, the trail leads toward Nangpa La pass, offering breathtaking views of the world’s highest peaks stretching eastward, including Everest, Makalu, Pumori, and more. Below lies the stunning Gokyo Lake, its turquoise waters framed by glaciers and towering peaks. The south face of Cho Oyu rises dramatically nearby, creating a spectacular alpine panorama.
The descent continues to the Gokyo Glacier, which must be carefully crossed before reaching the shores of Gokyo Lake, where your lodge awaits for the night.
Day 10 : GOKYO - ASCENT (OPTIONAL) OF GOKYO PEAK (5360 M) - DRAGNAG (4700 M)
Today is a short but scenic stage as the trail leads toward the foot of Cho La Pass. You will cross the terminal tongue of the Ngozumpa Glacier, navigating a dramatic landscape of rocks and ice before reaching the hamlet of Tarnak (Dragnag), where you will stay overnight.
For those seeking an extra challenge, an early morning ascent of Gokyo Peak (5,360 m) is possible. From the summit, enjoy a spectacular panorama comparable to that from Renjo Pass, including Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, as well as nearby Cholatse and the surrounding glaciers.
DAY11: DRAGNAG - CHO LA (5420 M) - DZONGLA (4840 M)
The day begins with a gradual climb toward Cho La Pass, culminating in a steep final slope. After approximately 5 hours of ascent, you reach the pass, where a new valley unfolds before you, offering breathtaking views of Ama Dablam and the surrounding peaks.
The descent is relatively easy, including a short stretch across a glacier (safe under guide supervision), leading to the hamlet of Dzongla, where you will spend the night.
Note:
The Cho La Pass can only be attempted in good weather and without fresh snow. The guide is the final authority on whether conditions are safe for crossing.
DAY 12: DZONGLA - LOBUCHE (4930 M)
Today’s stage is a gentle walk along the mountainside, offering spectacular panoramic views of some of the Himalayas’ most iconic peaks, including Jobo Lhaptshan (north face), Nuptse, Pumori, Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam.
This relatively easy day allows for a more relaxed pace while still enjoying the grandeur of the Khumbu region before reaching Lobuche, where you will stay overnight.
DAY 13: LOBUCHE - EVEREST BASE CAMP (5364) - GORAKSHEP (5160 M)
Today, you trek across the moraines of the Khumbu Glacier toward the legendary Everest Base Camp. The terrain is rugged and bumpy, reflecting the challenging environment where climbers spend up to two months preparing for the summit.
At Base Camp, you stand at the foot of the formidable Khumbu Icefall, with falling seracs adding to the dramatic and thrilling atmosphere. The surrounding landscape is truly spectacular, a moment of awe and accomplishment in the heart of the Himalayas. After enjoying the views, you return by the same path to Gorakshep for the night.
Day 14 GORAKSHEP - KALA PATTAR (5630 M) - LOBUCHE (4930 M)
Wake up early to climb the southern slopes of Kala Patthar, situated at the foot of the Pumori pyramid, and witness a truly unforgettable sunrise over the Himalayas. From this vantage point, enjoy panoramic views of the South Col — a critical section on the ascent of Everest — and much of the Everest climbing route.
After soaking in the breathtaking scenery, descend to Gorakshep for a short break and continue down to Lobuche for the night.
DAY 15: LOBUCHE - KONGMA LA (5535 M) - CHUKHUNG (4700 M)
The day begins with a trek across the Khumbu Glacier, gradually ascending toward Kongma La Pass, situated at the foot of Nuptse. From the pass, enjoy a breathtaking bird’s-eye view of the ice rivers and the expansive Everest Valley.
The journey then continues with a long descent into the spectacular cirque of Chukhung, nestled at the foot of the legendary south face of Lhotse, offering dramatic alpine scenery.
DAY 16: CHUKHUNG (4700 M) - DINGPOCHE - TENGBOCHE (3860 M)
Today’s trek features a scenic descent into the Khumbu Valley, passing under the majestic faces of Ama Dablam. You’ll traverse areas of permanent settlement and cultivated fields, arriving at the village of Dingboche before gradually entering forest-covered slopes.
Along the way, stop at Pangboche, with Ama Dablam towering above, and continue to Tengboche, where you will spend the night. The Tengboche Monastery, perched on a ridge, offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks.
DAY 17: PANGBOCHE - NAMCHE BAZAR (3440 M) - MONJO (2835 M)
Today, the trail descends toward Monjo, passing through lush forests and small villages along the way. This shorter stage helps reduce the difficulty of tomorrow’s trek to Lukla while still offering beautiful valley views and glimpses of the surrounding peaks.
DAY 18: MONJO - PHAKDING - LUKLA (2850 M)
Today’s trek follows the familiar path back to Lukla, retracing the route taken on the way up. Enjoy the final views of the Khumbu Valley and surrounding peaks as you return to the gateway of the region, where your trekking adventure concludes.
DAY 19: LUKLA - KATHMANDU
Your trek concludes with a flight from Lukla, either directly to Kathmandu or via Ramechhap Airport with a transfer to Kathmandu.
Once in Kathmandu, explore the vibrant Thamel district with its colorful bazaars — ideal for last-minute shopping. You may also visit Bhaktapur, a traditional village famous for its 17th-century architecture and timeless charm.
Note:
Flights to and from Lukla are weather-dependent. If delayed, your flight may be postponed to the next day, requiring an extra night at the lodge in Lukla.
DAY 20: FINAL DEPARTURE TO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Enjoy free time in Kathmandu depending on your flight schedule. At the appropriate time, our representative will transfer you to the airport, marking the end of your unforgettable journey in Nepal.
We hope to welcome you on another adventure in the future. Thank you and safe travels!
