Explore the 20-day Humla Limi Valley Trek, a remote camping adventure through ancient Tibetan villages, Nara La and Nyalu La passes, Buddhist monasteries, and spectacular Himalayan landscapes in Far-West Nepal.
The Humla Limi Valley Trek is one of Nepal’s most remote and culturally fascinating trekking journeys, taking you deep into the isolated landscapes of the Humla region in Far-West Nepal. Beginning and ending in Simikot, this 20-day adventure follows ancient trading routes through traditional villages such as Kermi, Yalbang, Yari, Hilsa, Til, Halji, and Jang, where Tibetan-influenced culture, centuries-old monasteries, and traditional lifestyles remain remarkably preserved. The trek crosses the challenging ‘’Nara La and Nyalu La passes’’, with Nyalu La reaching approximately ‘’4,940–5,001 meters’’, the highest point of the journey. Because accommodation facilities are limited in this remote region, the trek is operated as a ‘’full camping expedition’’, supported by an experienced trekking crew. With dramatic Himalayan scenery, high-altitude deserts, deep river valleys, wildlife, ancient Buddhist heritage, and very few trekkers, the Humla Limi Valley Trek is an excellent choice for experienced travelers seeking an authentic and adventurous Himalayan experience far from Nepal’s popular trekking routes.
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu – Welcome to Nepal
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in, you can rest and recover from your journey. In the evening, we will provide a short briefing about the Humla Limi Valley Trek, including the route, permits, weather conditions, camping arrangements, and equipment.
Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing & Trek Preparation
Today is dedicated to exploring Kathmandu and making final preparations for the trek. You may visit some of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Swayambhunath, Bouddhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple. Later, we will check your trekking equipment and complete the final trip briefing.
Day 3: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj
After completing the necessary permit formalities, we take an afternoon flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj in western Nepal. The landscape changes dramatically as we descend from the hills into the subtropical Terai plains. After arrival, transfer to the hotel and prepare for the early morning flight to Simikot.
Day 4: Fly Nepalgunj to Simikot
Early in the morning, we take a spectacular flight to Simikot, the administrative center of Humla District and the gateway to the Limi Valley. The flight offers beautiful views of Nepal's western Himalayan ranges. After landing, we meet our trekking and camping crew and spend the rest of the day acclimatizing.
Day 5: Trek from Simikot to Dharapori
Our trek begins with a gradual climb out of Simikot before descending through pine forests, traditional villages, and cultivated farmland. We follow the trail toward the Humla Karnali River and eventually reach Dharapori.
Day 6: Trek from Dharapori to Kermi
Today we follow the Humla Karnali River through a beautiful valley surrounded by rocky hills and agricultural terraces. The walk is relatively comfortable, allowing us to enjoy the scenery and traditional villages. On reaching Kermi, there may be an opportunity to visit the nearby natural hot springs.
Day 7: Trek from Kermi to Yalbang
Leaving Kermi, we follow the Karnali River and cross suspension bridges while gradually gaining altitude. The trail passes through peaceful settlements and rugged mountain terrain before reaching Yalbang. We can visit the impressive Buddhist monastery above the village.
Day 8: Trek from Yalbang to Tumkot
The trail continues through increasingly remote landscapes as we follow the Karnali Valley. We pass Yangar and other small settlements before reaching Muchu and continuing toward Tumkot. The Tibetan Buddhist influence becomes increasingly visible through mani walls, prayer flags, and monasteries.
Day 9: Trek from Tumkot to Yari
Today the landscape becomes drier and more dramatic as we climb higher toward the Nepal–Tibet border region. Vegetation becomes sparse, and the surroundings take on the character of the Tibetan Plateau. We eventually reach Yari, where we camp and prepare for the first major high pass of the trek.
Day 10: Trek from Yari to Hilsa via Nara La Pass
This is one of the most challenging and rewarding days of the trek. We begin early and climb steadily toward Nara La Pass, decorated with prayer flags and stone cairns. From the pass, we enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and the Tibetan Plateau before descending toward Hilsa near the Nepal–Tibet border.
Day 11: Trek from Hilsa to Manepeme
From Hilsa, we enter the spectacular Limi Valley region. The trail follows narrow paths above the Karnali River through an isolated landscape of towering cliffs and barren hills. This section feels exceptionally remote, with very few settlements along the way.
Day 12: Trek from Manepeme to Til Village
Today we continue deeper into the Limi Valley, following the river and crossing rugged mountain terrain. Eventually, we arrive at Til, one of the three main traditional villages of the valley. The village preserves a strong Tibetan Buddhist culture and centuries-old traditions.
Day 13: Trek from Til to Halji
We enjoy a relatively short trekking day, following the Limi River toward Halji. This allows plenty of time to explore the village and experience local culture. Halji is famous for its ancient Rinchenling Monastery, one of the most important cultural highlights of the entire trek.
Day 14: Trek from Halji to Jang
After breakfast, we continue along the beautiful Limi Valley toward Jang. The trail passes cultivated fields, stone houses, mani walls, and traditional Buddhist monuments. Jang is another ancient village where Tibetan culture remains deeply rooted in everyday life.
Day 15: Trek from Jang to Talung
Leaving the inhabited Limi Valley behind, we enter a much wilder and more isolated landscape. Today's route is long and physically demanding, gradually climbing toward Talung. The scenery is dominated by broad valleys, high mountains, and remote Himalayan wilderness.
Day 16: Cross Nyalu La Pass and Trek to Shinjungma
Today is the toughest and highest day of the Humla Limi Valley Trek. We start early and climb toward Nyalu La Pass, the highest point of the journey. From the pass, we can enjoy outstanding Himalayan views, and in clear conditions there may be distant views toward the Tibetan Plateau and Mount Kailash region. After crossing the pass, we descend carefully toward Shinjungma.
Day 17: Trek from Shinjungma to Kermi
After the demanding high-pass crossing, today's route descends toward lower and greener terrain. We walk through forests and river valleys before returning to Kermi, where we can enjoy a well-deserved rest.
Day 18: Trek from Kermi to Simikot
Our final trekking day takes us back along familiar trails before climbing toward Simikot. Upon arrival, we celebrate the successful completion of our remarkable journey through one of Nepal's most isolated Himalayan valleys.
Day 19: Fly Simikot to Nepalgunj & Kathmandu
Early in the morning, we take the scenic flight from Simikot back to Nepalgunj. Depending on the flight schedule, we connect with another flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. The evening is free for rest, shopping, or exploring Kathmandu.
