As you journey through the Manaslu region, you pass through numerous traditional villages inhabited by diverse ethnic groups. Each village offers a glimpse into local culture, from warm hospitality to unique traditions and architecture. The trail gradually leads to Lho and Sama, Tibetan-influenced villages marked by colorful prayer flags, ancient monasteries, and sacred chortens, reflecting centuries of spiritual heritage.

One of the highlights of the trek is crossing the Larkya La Pass at 5,150 meters, a demanding high-altitude challenge set against a stunning glacial landscape. From this vantage point, panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and remote valleys make every step of the ascent worthwhile. The careful pacing of the trek ensures proper acclimatization, allowing you to enjoy the high mountains safely and comfortably.

The Manaslu Circuit is not just about the peaks; it’s a journey through pristine natural beauty. Dense forests, flowing rivers, terraced fields, and alpine meadows create a constantly changing landscape. This trek offers a rare opportunity to experience Nepal’s Himalayan wilderness in its purest form, far from the bustling tourist routes.

Staying in cozy lodges along the route, trekkers enjoy local cuisine, interact with villagers, and immerse themselves in the cultural richness of the region. Porters are provided with gear based on the routes they follow and with insurance for alpine treks.
Each trekker is allotted the following maximum weights per person:
 For Lodge (tea house) Accommodations:15 kg maximum;
Tent Camping: 22 kg maximum; Expeditions/summit ascents: 20 kg maximum. The porters are given a premium wage for carrying loads over 30 kg.

Preparing for the trek requires several months of preparation with 4 to 6-hour walks every weekend for stamina and participating in a sport that requires short periods of high exertion.

Medical check-up before going to the manaslu trek

Being in good health is essential to fully enjoy your Alpinist Club trip. If your last medical visit was more than four years ago, please get another general physical exam and tell your doctor the nature of your trip (climate, altitude, difficulty, etc.). The altitude also has the effect of reviving dental problems or other chronic pain, so getting a dental checkup is also prudent. If you are undertaking a high-altitude expedition, we advise you to consult a mountain medicine specialist.

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) in the Manaslu Circuit Trek

The Manaslu Circuit Trek takes you to high altitudes, where some trekkers may experience Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) due to reduced oxygen levels. Early symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite, and difficulty sleeping. These are usually mild and disappear after proper rest and acclimatization, but if ignored, they can lead to severe conditions such as High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) or High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE).
How to Prevent AMS:
  • Ascend gradually: Follow a well-designed itinerary with acclimatization days, especially above 3,000 meters.
  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol or smoking.
  • Eat well and rest: Maintain a balanced diet and get enough sleep.
  • Listen to your body: Do not ignore early symptoms; inform your guide immediately.
  • Medication: Some trekkers use Diamox (Acetazolamide) to help acclimatize, but always consult your doctor before using any altitude medication.
  • Descend if needed: If symptoms worsen, the best treatment is to descend to a lower altitude immediately.
Your Alpinist Club guide is trained to recognize AMS symptoms and will ensure proper precautions are taken for your safety and comfort during the trek.
