The Cholatse Peak Expedition is a thrilling high-altitude climb in Nepal’s Khumbu region, perfect for experienced mountaineers seeking a technical and rewarding adventure. The climb follows the southwest ridge of Cholatse (6,440 m), renowned for its steep snow, ice, and mixed terrain, demanding advanced alpine skills and confidence on exposed sections.


Overview

Unlike busier Himalayan peaks, Cholatse offers a more secluded and intimate experience, guiding climbers through the stunning Gokyo Valley and its serene high-altitude lakes before tackling the main challenge above 5,000 m. Success on this expedition requires excellent fitness, strong mountaineering technique, and careful acclimatization, making it ideal for climbers with prior technical experience.

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), where our representative will warmly welcome you. You’ll be transferred to your hotel to freshen up and relax. Later, you can explore the vibrant streets of Thamel, perfect for a stroll, some refreshments, and light shopping.

Today is dedicated to completing all official procedures, including documentation and expedition permits. We’ll prepare for the trek by packing, shopping for essentials, and reviewing your gear. A detailed briefing will cover the trek’s duration, accommodations, facilities, and safety measures. This is also a great chance to meet your fellow climbers and build team camaraderie.

After an early breakfast, enjoy a scenic flight to Lukla Airport, offering breathtaking views of the valleys, rivers, and Himalayan peaks. From Lukla, we begin our trek to Phakding, passing through settlements, forests, and over suspension bridges along the Dudh Koshi River. This is a gentle introduction to trekking in the Himalayas.

The trek continues to Namche Bazaar, the bustling commercial hub of the Khumbu region. The trail winds through lush forests, rivers, and suspension bridges, gradually ascending. Upon arrival, enjoy a well-deserved rest and dinner. The following day is for acclimatization and exploring the village, experiencing Sherpa culture firsthand.

Leaving Namche Bazaar, the trail leads through dense forests, eventually giving way to alpine pastures and small settlements. The trek offers stunning views of Khumbu La and Tawache peaks. After approximately six hours of trekking, we reach Dole for an overnight stay.

From Dole, we trek to Mach herma, a quieter trail that provides peace and solitude. The route ascends ridges with magnificent views of Kangtega, Cho Oyu, and the Ngozumpa Glacier, before reaching Machermo for an overnight stay.

Trek to the breathtaking Gokyo Valley, famous for its turquoise lakes and dramatic landscapes. Spend the next day hiking Gokyo Ri (5,483 m) to acclimatize. From the summit, enjoy panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Pumori, Nuptse, Cho Oyu, and Makalu.

Depart Gokyo Valley and trek towards Thangna, approaching the base of Cholatse Peak. Soak in the Himalayan scenery along the way.

Trek from Thangna to the Cholatse Peak Base Camp, where preparations for the climb begin. Overnight camping allows you to rest and acclimatize for the summit attempt.

This five-day period is dedicated to climbing Cholatse Peak. We will establish higher camps, set fixed ropes, and begin summit attempts if the weather permits. Witness breathtaking panoramas of the highest peaks in the world. Return to base camp after each climb to rest and prepare for the next day.

After breaking down the base camp, descend to Pangboche, a scenic village where we stay overnight in a lodge.

Continue descending to Namche Bazaar, where you can enjoy a cozy lodge and a delicious dinner.

Follow the trail back to Lukla, stopping at Phakding for lunch. The trek covers approximately 19 km and takes 7–8 hours. Overnight stay in a lodge or hotel.

Take a scenic flight back to Kathmandu, bringing memories of the majestic Himalayas. Spend the day exploring Thamel, shopping, dining, or relaxing. Join the farewell dinner in the evening.

LUNCH & DINNER : Lunch and dinner during the stay in Kathmandu and Pokhara (also in case of early return from Trekking / Expedition than the scheduled itinerary).
EXTRA NIGHTS IN KATHMANDU : Extra nights’ accommodation in Kathmandu and Pokhara. In case of early arrival or late departure, early return from Trekking / Expedition, or domestic flight cancellation (due to any other reason) than the scheduled itinerary.
INSURANCE POLICY : Insurance covering both medical and high-altitude evacuation costs (for the trip cancellation, interruption, high altitude rescue and air evacuation, medical treatment, repatriation, etc.) *Mandatory
