Important Information: Lukla Flights & Safety

We want to inform you about flights to Lukla, which may affect your travel plans. During the busy trekking seasons (March, April, May, October, and November), flights depart from Ramechhap/Manthali, a 5–6 hour drive from Kathmandu. In quieter months (January, February, June, July, August, September, and December), flights operate directly from Kathmandu.

Airlines determine flight schedules based on monthly passenger numbers, but weather conditions, airport congestion, runway limitations, and challenging terrain can lead to delays or cancellations. For this reason, we recommend allowing an extra day or two in your itinerary to accommodate potential flight disruptions, ensuring a stress-free journey and timely return for your international flight.

Overview

Three Passes of Everest: Kongma La, Cho La & Renjo La

The journey begins along ancient trails that link traditional Sherpa villages, prayer walls, and centuries-old monasteries, offering deep insight into the spiritual heritage of the Himalaya. As we gain altitude, the landscape transforms from forested valleys into vast alpine terrain dominated by ice, rock, and towering peaks.

The trek’s defining feature is the crossing of three major Himalayan passes, each rising above 5,000 meters: Kongma La, Cho La, and Renjo La. These crossings demand endurance, strong acclimatization, and confident mountain travel, rewarding us with spectacular panoramic views rarely seen on standard Everest routes.

Beyond the passes, we ascend to two legendary viewpoints. Kala Patthar (5,630 m) provides the most dramatic close-up views of Everest’s south face, while the climb of Gokyo Peak (5,360 m) reveals a breathtaking panorama of turquoise lakes and the massive bulk of Cho Oyu. The journey also leads to Everest Base Camp, where climbers prepare for their ascent of the world’s highest mountain.

Throughout the trek, we remain constantly surrounded by Himalayan giants—Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori, Cho Oyu, and Mount Everest—creating a continuous sense of awe and scale. This is not merely a trek, but a true high-altitude adventure that combines physical challenge, cultural discovery, and the unforgettable presence of the greatest mountains on Earth.

Being in good health is essential to fully enjoy your Alpinist Club trip. If your last medical visit was more than four years ago, please get another general physical exam and tell your doctor the nature of your trip (climate, altitude, difficulty, etc.). If you are undertaking a high-altitude expedition, we advise you to consult a mountain medicine specialist.

Acute Mountain Sickness in Everest Three pass Trek
This trip takes place at high altitudes, so some people may experience altitude-related discomforts like headaches, loss of appetite, and swelling of limbs.
