Overview

The ice climbing season runs from December to February, offering a unique winter adventure. Don't worry if you're a novice; our expert Mountain guides (IFMGA)  provide comprehensive training, and you only need to bring your necessary equipment.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced climber, we have courses tailored for all levels. Our certified IFMGA (International Federation of Mountain Guides Association )mountain guides are passionate about ice climbing and eager to share their knowledge, ensuring you have an unforgettable experience on the icy cliffs of Nepal!

Training Curriculum Includes


  • Ice Climbing Equipment: Introduction to specialized gear such as ice axes, crampons, ice screws, harnesses, helmets, and clothing for cold conditions.
  • Ice Climbing Safety: Emphasis on safety procedures, assessing ice conditions, understanding hazards like icefall, and minimizing risks.
  • Ice Climbing Techniques: Learning specific movements such as hooking, front-pointing, and matching hands. Rappelling and Belaying in an Alpine Setting: Skills for safely rappelling and belaying in icy and alpine environments.
  • Multi-Pitch Climbing Techniques: strategies for climbing routes that require multiple pitches, or stages
  • Belaying for Ice Climbing: Mastering techniques for belaying a climber on ice, including lead climbing, top-rope belaying, and multi-pitch climbing.
  • Anchoring and Ice Screws: Understanding how to place and use ice screws and other anchors in ice to protect the climb.
  • Ice Climbing Knots: Learning knots specific to ice climbing, such as the figure-eight follow-through and the clove hitch.
  • Climbing Icefalls and Frozen Waterfalls: Techniques for ascending ice formations and handling different ice features.
  • Managing Climbing Hazards: Strategies for dealing with objective hazards like falling ice and avalanches.
  • Climbing Communication: Effective communication techniques between the climber and the belayer.
  • Ice Climbing Ethics and Leave No Trace: Promoting responsible climbing practices and minimizing environmental impact.


Course Designed for All Experience Levels

Our training is designed for people with little or no experience in technical waterfall ice climbing. This course is perfect for those aspiring to improve their technical climbing skills for steeper snow or ice routes with multiple peaks above 6000m. You'll learn the basics of ice climbing, crampons, ice tools, ice screws, belaying, knots, and top-rope climbing techniques—everything needed to be a competent top-roping partner for more experienced climbers.


Skill Levels

Beginner: No previous experience in ice climbing. You may have some basic rock or indoor climbing experience but have never used crampons and ice axes.
Intermediate: Some prior experience in ice climbing. You know basic techniques (climbing with crampons and ice axes) and basic maneuvers (belaying, rappelling, basic knots).

When you arrive at Kathmandu airport our representative from Alpinist Club will be there to greet you and when you have gone through customs formalities our representative will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel. Once you are checked in our ice climbing guide and other participants will go through the final preparation for the trip. In the evening get ready to be introduced to Nepali cuisines.

The guide goes through preparation and briefing with the team about Humde Winter Ice Climbing today. Our discussion entails the route you take and let you know how each day will be like. There will be climbing equipment check.

We leave Kathmandu at around 7 am, and nearly after 4-5 hours’ drive, we reach the Besishahar route. We see more of the countryside of Nepal that offers greeneries, rivers, villages, farms, and beautiful mountain sceneries.

We have to begin very early as we go on a long drive to reach our training starting point. After breakfast, we drive along forested ridges with several landslides on route on the west. On our way to humde, we come to meet with the most sensational views of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and Annapurna IV (7,525m).In the afternoon, once you reach Humde, after lunch you will explore the waterfall ice section.

These several days are full of activities, learning, and testing. They include ice climbing activities, multi-pitch ice climbing, 2-point anchor, V thread Anchor, Belay in any conditions, Multi-pitch Rappelling, Ice axe technique, Crampon technique, Ice screw placement, Ice climbing movement, Climbing communications between climber and belayer. In all of this our experts will be instructing you all the while. During the training, we will check and assess your training progress.

After completing and handing out your grades we head back to Chame.

We travel by our Tourist bus and head out early morning back to Kathmandu.
