Annapurna IV Expedition – A True Himalayan Climbing Adventure

Join the Annapurna IV Expedition in Nepal and climb to 7,525m through spectacular Himalayan landscapes, glaciers, high-altitude camps, and remote mountain villages.

Standing at 7,525 meters, Annapurna IV is one of the impressive peaks of Nepal’s Annapurna Himalaya. Located in the central Himalayas between Annapurna II and Annapurna III, the mountain offers experienced climbers a serious expedition without the extreme crowds often found on Nepal’s 8,000-meter peaks.

The Annapurna IV Expedition is not simply about reaching the summit. It is a complete Himalayan journey filled with beautiful landscapes, remote mountain villages, glacier travel, high-altitude camps, teamwork, and the challenge of climbing in one of Nepal’s most spectacular mountain regions.

Why Climb Annapurna IV?

Annapurna IV is an excellent choice for mountaineers who already have experience on 6,000-meter peaks and want to move toward a higher and more demanding expedition.

The climb requires good physical fitness, previous high-altitude experience, confidence using crampons and an ice axe, and the ability to travel safely on snow and glaciers.

Unlike more commercial mountains, Annapurna IV still feels wild and adventurous. Climbers spend several weeks surrounded by huge Himalayan peaks, glaciers, and changing mountain conditions.

For many mountaineers, Annapurna IV is also an important stepping stone before attempting an 8,000-meter expedition.

The Journey to Annapurna IV

The expedition normally begins in Kathmandu, where our team completes the necessary expedition paperwork, checks equipment, and conducts a final expedition briefing.

From Kathmandu, we travel toward the Annapurna region before beginning the approach to Annapurna IV Base Camp.

The journey to Base Camp is part of the adventure itself. As we move deeper into the mountains, busy roads and settlements gradually disappear and the landscape becomes increasingly remote.

Once we reach Base Camp, the climbing team settles into expedition life. Base Camp becomes our temporary home for the coming weeks, with dining facilities, communication equipment, climbing gear, food supplies, and experienced support staff.

Acclimatization and Camp Rotation

Climbing a 7,000-meter mountain requires patience.

After reaching Base Camp, we do not immediately attempt the summit. Instead, the team follows a carefully planned acclimatization program.

Climbers gradually move higher, establish camps, return to lower elevations to recover, and repeat the process. These rotations allow the body to adjust to lower oxygen levels while also giving climbers the opportunity to become familiar with the route.

Depending on the mountain and weather conditions, several high camps may be established above Base Camp.

During the rotations, climbers practice moving efficiently with fixed ropes, crampons, harnesses, ascenders, and other technical equipment.

Rest days are equally important. Good food, hydration, sleep, and recovery at Base Camp play a major role in preparing the body for the final summit attempt.

Climbing Annapurna IV

The higher sections of Annapurna IV involve glacier travel, steep snow slopes, exposed terrain, and changing Himalayan weather.

Our climbing Sherpas and expedition leaders prepare the route, manage ropes where required, transport equipment, establish camps, and support climbers throughout the expedition.

As the team moves higher, every step becomes slower and more demanding. Temperatures fall, oxygen levels decrease, and even simple activities require extra energy.

Reaching the higher camps is already a major achievement.

When the weather forecast, snow conditions, and health of the team are favorable, the expedition leader selects the best possible summit window.

Summit Day

Summit day normally begins during the night.

Wearing full high-altitude climbing equipment, the team leaves the highest camp and begins moving steadily toward the summit.

Progress is slow and controlled. At this altitude, maintaining a comfortable rhythm is more important than moving quickly.

As daylight appears across the Himalayas, climbers are rewarded with incredible views of the surrounding Annapurna range.

Finally, after days of acclimatization, preparation, and climbing, reaching the 7,525-meter summit of Annapurna IV becomes an unforgettable moment.

However, the expedition is not finished at the summit.

Returning safely to camp and eventually back to Base Camp remains the most important part of the climb.

Who Is This Expedition For?

The Annapurna IV Expedition is best suited to climbers who already have previous mountaineering experience.

Participants should ideally have:

  • Previous experience climbing 6,000-meter peaks
  • Good physical fitness and endurance
  • Basic technical mountaineering skills
  • Experience using crampons, ice axe, harness, and ascender
  • Previous exposure to high altitude
  • Ability to work comfortably as part of an expedition team
  • Strong motivation and patience

Prior Himalayan climbing experience is highly recommended.

Best Season for Annapurna IV

The main climbing seasons for Annapurna IV are generally spring and autumn.

Autumn, particularly October and November, often brings clear skies, stable weather periods, and excellent mountain visibility. Mornings and evenings can be very cold, while daytime conditions are often more comfortable when the sun is out.

Mountain weather can always change quickly, so flexibility remains an important part of every Himalayan expedition.

Safety Comes First

High-altitude mountaineering always involves risk.

Weather, snow conditions, altitude sickness, glacier movement, exhaustion, and unexpected changes can all influence the expedition.

For this reason, our team continuously evaluates the condition of the mountain and each climber.

Summit success is important, but returning safely is always the first priority.

Our experienced climbing team manages route conditions, camp logistics, communication, weather information, emergency planning, and high-altitude support throughout the expedition.

But this is also what makes the expedition special.

Living together at Base Camp, watching the sunrise over the Annapurna Himalaya, preparing equipment for the next rotation, sharing stories after difficult climbing days, and finally standing high above the surrounding valleys create memories that remain long after the expedition is finished.

For climbers looking for their next serious Himalayan challenge, Annapurna IV offers a perfect combination of altitude, adventure, technical climbing, and true expedition experience.
